WORKING WITH FEARFUL & REACTIVE DOGS
October 30-31, 2010 9:00am-5:00pm
This seminar will focus on understanding canine behavior, the nature of fear and anxiety, understanding aggression (including bite etiology). The role of stress, arousal, resilience and environmental factors are discussed. Attendees will learn the specific RCT techniques that are useful for fearful and reactive dogs:
  • Treat/Retreat
  • Use of the Stimulus Gradient
  • The Auto Check-In
  • In/Out of Safety Zones
  • Follow Me
  • Ghost Handling
  • Go Hunt
  • Intelligent Consequences
Attendees will learn to use these simple, effective techniques that help alter a dog's feeling about a situation, bring balance to the dog/human relationship without punishment or confrontation, and help the dog and handler develop new skills for a variety of situations, These RCT techniques are also useful & helpful for dogs without fear or reactivity.
 
 COST: $300 both days/$175 one day

RCT Techniques Clinic

This is a hands-on clinic limited to 12 working spots. 

Join us for a 1/2 day clinic to get a deeper, HANDS-ON, understanding of the RCT techniques that Suzanne used during the seminar. You will work with dogs to learn and teach the things you saw over the weekend.

This clinic is STRICTLY limited to weekend seminar attendees!

About Suzanne Clothier
Suzanne Clothier has been working with animals professionally since 1977, with a deep background of experience that includes obedience, agility, puppy testing, breeding, Search and Rescue, conformation, instructing, kennel management and canine midwifery.  She is well respected for her holistic, relationship based approach to dogs and the people that love them.

She has taught in the US, Canada, Belgium, Holland, Japan, Australia, New Zealand & Italy for groups as varied as Wolf Park, NADOI, Association of Pet Dog Trainers, FEMA (Northeast Region Disaster Dog Teams), Alaskan Dog Musher Association, Chicago Anti-Cruelty Society, St. Hubert’s Giralda & many national specialties, and obedience, agility, breed, rescue, shelter and SAR groups.  Whether the audience is companion dog owners or experienced trainers, Suzanne's broad knowledge, common sense and humor offer exciting, practical information and approaches that will enhance the dog/human relationship.

An award winning author of videos, books, booklets and numerous articles, Suzanne has written articles for the AKC Gazette, Dog Fancy, Dogs In Canada, Off Lead, Clean Run, Wolf Clan and breed magazines and newsletters around the world.  She served as a committee member for the AKC’s Agility Advisory Board, and as a committee member of the American Humane Association’s Task Force for the Development of Humane Standards in Dog Training.  Her latest book, Bones Would Rain from the Sky: Deepening Our Relationships With Dogs has received wide spread praise from every corner of the dog world. A German Shepherd breeder for 25+ years, her Hawks Hunt German Shepherds have been successful in obedience, agility, SAR, tracking, herding and therapy work; she is also the co-breeder of a National Specialty BOB Brittany.  She & husband John Rice live on a working farm with their considerable animal family of dogs, cats, parrots, tortoises, Scottish Highland cattle, horses, donkeys, pigs, & poultry.

Currently, Suzanne is working with Guiding Eyes for the Blind to update their puppy raising program & develop new tests & evaluation tools, making Suzanne’s availability for seminars very limited through at least 2009.
